This is a personal topic I struggle with, so I shall make my bias apparent. I’ve written in my journals about the intense levels of disgust I have towards those oriented on a religious front. I assume, with a sort of Paleo-Perennialist/agnostic–valuing Perennial wisdom without divine dogma–reasoning that the Christian, the Jew, and the Muslim all have pathological assumptions of divine certainty (metaphysics) that I cannot believe any rational mind would share. The mere fact that these “faiths” continue to spread and have in fact gained memetic resonance (particularly Islam) perturbs me. Contrary to what some may think about me, particularly those who know me in real life, I acknowledge that an ethnically pluralistic society does not conflict with my values. A rational mind is not limited to any one race. However, a religiously pluralistic society cannot co-exist with my values. The concepts of Goyim, Kafir, and Infidel are designed to create outsiders. Their metaphysical assumptions orient the “faithful” towards pathology and are inherently incompatible with a modern secular society where everyone is “equal.”
With my controversial bias aside, I would like to share an idea with you. Disgust, as an evolutionary feature, is being weaponized memetically to orient the populace on both the left and the right. Rational minds and those willing to fight for the Neo-Perennialist cause should aptly use the same level of disgust-oriented memetic warfare and defend against it utilizing PF Jung’s strategy of Memetic Herd Immunity.
But how does one weaponize disgust?
Disgust is a hardwired evolutionary feature designed to protect against threats to survival. Most believe it emerged as a response to risk associated with pathogens, toxins, and harmful elements within our ancestral environment. But disgust is not only associated with the physical world around us, but also human behaviours. Take for example a serial rapist. Most who merely think of the act of rape will feel a queezy sensation in their stomach, especially if one is imaginative and can get into the gritty reality of it. When we think of child predators or serial killers and the consumption of human flesh, we also feel these sensations of disgust. In a sense, these feelings of disgust are conditioned to us despite the fact that there is no biological pathogen or toxin associated with the act. We feel disgust around culturally agreed-upon negative behaviour.
This sensation of disgust and disapproval is being amplified by both sides of the political spectrum. The left frames the right as “deplorable anti-human ignoramuses,” while the right frames the left as “Woke degenerates.” Across every media platform, either side continues to spread negative propaganda about the other. Both with some degree of accuracy in their messaging. The right posts videos of immigrants committing crimes, Tesla vandalism, Save Europe videos to L’Amour Toujours, and liberal freakouts. While the left typically shares conservative pundits being ‘schooled,’ anti-vaxxer rants, climate denier meltdowns, and rage-bait content. With social media algorithms watching retention and comments, the memetic war continues on the digital front and the populace grows increasingly more divided as the memes spread. But rationalists can turn this weapon back on the zealots–disgust can expose their dogmas as the real rot that it is. Conservatism has benefited big corporations that increase the wealth gap and can bring harm to workers, while Liberalism’s associated ideology is so innately baffling that those who are not obsessed with the “virtue” of it become an enemy (which is not a strong memetic idea as it relies on shame and smugness).
Disgust has been historically used as a means of shaping culture. While the West typically views the grooming of children and cousin marriage as wrong, places like Pakistan or Islamic sects that view the sexual abuse of the Kafir as perfectly acceptable in Islamic law, do not share the same sentiments. It’s a fickle weapon that I am just beginning to uncover. I wonder if, wielded too broadly, people may tune out the tenth “degenerate’ screed or may even shrug at yet another crime clip. Worse, it can boomerang (as it did with the American left) and paint every opponent as a zealot and alienate its own potential allies into apathy or animosity. Historical Education and Principle, as PF Jung suggests, temper this. Disgust works best when it’s surgical, thought through, and aimed at a specific target. It must aim at the core of the rot and avoid the fringes where allies lie. The Neo-Perennialist must take their time. Build immunity first, and strike second.
Disgust is no longer a reflex–it’s our weapon to reclaim reason from the powers that be. Conservatism’s corporate cronyism and Liberalism’s smug paradoxes aren’t just flaws; they’re pathogens rotting the West’s secular soul. Rational minds, armed with history’s lessons and principles, can turn this instinct into a scalpel. Cut out the metaphysics, contrast the ideology, and find the truth. Pick up the blade, aim true, and carve the world where ideas win by merit, not stench.
P.S. I really do like the memes of Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, and Muslims—the same goes for corporate shills and smug liberals. But skip the caricatures and vaguely related ideas; hit them with their own words—scriptures, earnings calls, and salary raises. Their core is flawed. Expose it.
